Our School App Stay connected on the go...
Chesham Grammar School is staffed by specialists who are passionate about their subject and the standard of teaching is high. However, our main priority is learning and we aim to enable our students to develop confidence and resilience so that they know how to learn for themselves. while teachers encourage, support and guide pupils, we expect them to take a good deal of responsibility for their own learning and to be resourceful, to relish challenges and to persevere when they find things hard. We believe that these are the habits and skills which will serve them well at university and beyond.
Key Stages 3 & 4
The lower school curriculum is continually evolving to provide a broad and challenging programme, giving pupils the opportunity to study ten subjects to GCSE, with the expectation of progression to A levels and beyond into higher education. Pupils study French in Year 7 and start a second modern foreign language in Year 8, either German or Spanish. They also start Latin in Year 7, with three separate sciences commencing in Year 8. English and Mathematics achieve excellent results at GCSE.
The programme also leads to qualifications in Computing and Philosophy, Religion and Ethics, and covers citizenship, enterprise, word-related learning and PSHEE. The curriculum is subject-based, with specialist staff for each subject.
Pupils are expected to take ten full GCSE subjects.
Chesham Grammar School has an academic Sixth Form. Pupils study either four subjects at A level or three subjects to A level and one to AS level. All pupils follow a programme of non-examination Sixth Form Studies including PRE, Enrichment and PSHEE. The latter includes a strong element of careers advice. There are also many opportunities for leadership and personal enrichment through service to the School and the wider world.
